We are trying to remove Exchange on one of our servers. When trying to remove exchange I get a message:
The component "Microsoft Exchange Messaging and Collaboration Services" cannot be assigned the action "Remove" because:
-One or more users currently use a mailbox store on this server. These users must be moved to a mailbox store on a different server or be mail disabled before uninstalling this server.
You do a custom search in Active Directory.
1. Open Active Directory Users and Computers, right click on your domain name and choose Find.
2. In the Find drop down menu, choose Custom, and then choose the Advanced Tab
3. In the LDAP query box paste this in: (&(objectCategory=user)(msExchHomeServerName=*))
4. Click Find Now and you may be surprised to find some mailboxes show up that you thought had absolutely no Exchange attributes.
5. Now remove the Exchange attributes from the user account by finding the account in Active Directory Users and Computers (version with exchange tabs in user accounts), and right click on the user and choose Exchange Tasks, and then select Remove Exchange Attributes.
